Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Tremendous Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not impacted by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the creator Know the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why mess with the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
