The Three Lions to Launch the European Championship 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground

The England national team will embark on their Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, assuming they secure the expected entry for a competition taking place in the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an Three Lions game since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a friendly, but is highly likely to welcome the England side for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the venue by about 50 protesters, who called for the Israeli team to be expelled from international football because of the Gaza crisis.

Banners were held up with phrases stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The inaugural fixture of the tournament will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.

It is hoped that an earlier start, which will also be implemented for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to families and help engage a more diverse set of audiences.

Participating Countries

The Irish team are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would play similarly at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

Each host nation’s squad will participate in the preliminary stage; two reserved places will be set aside for any that fail to qualify for the finals through the standard process.

Stadiums and Elimination Phase

The Birmingham venue and The North London arena finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches held at every host’s main arena.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Official Statement

“This will be a championship for the followers and a showcase of everything we cherish about the football – its fervor and ability to foster unity.”

In excess of three million passes, a record for a Euro tournament, are projected to be offered to attendees.
