The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
