New Details Surface Concerning the Finding of the Reiner Couple's Bodies
Fresh particulars have surfaced regarding the untimely demises of acclaimed film director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Los Angeles home home on Sunday.
A Alarm
A source indicates referencing a family associate, a practitioner arriving for an appointment first raised the alarm after failing to get inside the home. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who resides close by.
Upon entering the residence, Romy found her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was also present. Her roommate who had accompanied her contacted 911. Following this, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Charges
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of murder in the first degree, as well as the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently being held and is ineligible for bail.
Clarifications
The confidential informant challenged several previously reported details. The source indicated that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.
Furthermore pushed back against widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been especially "concerned" about Nick's conduct in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement applies to reports of reportedly "erratic" conduct by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien on the night before the tragedy. While the source said they were unable to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they said that suggestions of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.
Investigation Timeline
Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had not yet established as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Some accounts indicated the state of their bodies suggested they had been dead for some hours.
Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, about 15 miles from the family home. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client had a medical issue and would not be present until Wednesday at the earliest.
