Democratic officials expressed anger after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic legislators of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Recording That Sparked the Dispute

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic elected officials who in the past served in military or intelligence roles.

"Like us, you all made an pledge to defend and uphold this constitution," the officials declared in the short video. "And right now, the threats to our governing document aren't just from overseas, but from within our own country. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can refuse illegal orders, you have to refuse unlawful commands. No one has to follow commands that break the law or our constitution."

Trump's Furious Response

The recorded statement seemed to trigger a angry reply from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

Democratic Leaders Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Democratic leadership released a joint declaration censuring the remarks.

"Violent politics has no place in the United States," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our nation with great national pride and excellence. We clearly censure Donald Trump's disgusting and harmful death threats against elected officials, and call on GOP representatives to forcefully do the same."

The party representatives also stated that they had been in communication with security officials "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately take down these radical online messages and recant his dangerous language before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.

Representatives' Firm Answer

The representatives who were featured in the video also published a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and defense specialists who love this nation and took an vow to protect and support the constitution of the United States," they said. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to honor it. No threat, coercion, or incitement will deter us from that important responsibility."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president views it liable to punishment by death for us to repeat the legal requirements," they stated. "Our service members should recognize that we have their protection as they execute their pledge to the constitution and duty to obey only legal commands. Additional Political Comments

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the death of public representatives."

The Conservative official supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "sedition", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "It is very risky, you have important representatives of the government telling troops to defy commands, I think that represents without precedent in the nation's past."
