Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.
Audiences can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
