Widely circulated footage seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, but Jones insists he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team clinched a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. It was essentially an exchange with Cowboys supporters seated near me,” Jones stated during a radio appearance. “There was a swarm of Dallas supporters—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the gesture was entirely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I just showed the wrong finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently done.
