Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
